Independent Travel Intelligence

The Advisory That Works
For You Alone

Most travel advice is compromised by the financial relationships behind it. Commissions, supplier partnerships, and booking incentives quietly shape recommendations before a client ever asks a question.

This practice is built differently. No supplier commissions. No preferred hotel relationships. No financial incentive to send you to one property over another. The analysis is clean because the economics require it to be.

The foundation is ninety countries across six continents — combined with the kind of ongoing, methodical research that turns firsthand experience into transferable intelligence. The goal in every engagement is one thing: the outcome that best serves the client's actual priorities, not the one that happens to generate a commission.

The most valuable thing an advisor can offer is a recommendation they have no financial reason to make.

  • Firsthand experience across the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific — spanning three decades of travel

  • Premium cabin travel navigated through points strategy, status, and disciplined search — never assumed to be free

  • Deep Marriott brand access combined with honest analysis of when competing programs offer better value

  • Vetted local guide connections across the Caribbean, East Africa, and Southeast Asia

PLANNING PHILOSOPHY

The Method

Four Principles.
Every Journey.

Exceptional travel is not accidental. It is the product of precise sequencing — understanding the client, optimizing the economics, curating the experience, and knowing where restraint delivers more than spending does.

01

Understand How You Actually Travel

Before any itinerary takes shape, the process starts with priorities — pace, flexibility, non-negotiables, and budget philosophy. The couples celebrating in the Maldives and the solo traveler moving through East Africa for three weeks require entirely different strategic frameworks.

More importantly: smarter outcomes often require more flexibility than clients initially expect. Deciding where you will and will not bend is the first strategic act of any well-planned journey.

02

Optimize the Economics Without Illusion

Every element of a journey is evaluated: which points currencies apply, where cash outperforms redemption, when a full-price fare is actually the correct call. The question is never "how do we spend less" — it is "does this expenditure return proportionate value?" That standard applies whether the budget is $3,000 or $30,000.

Intelligent spending and generous spending are not opposites.

03

Curate What Cannot Be Searched

Logistics are table stakes. The differentiating work is in the layer above — the correct guide in Nairobi, the right neighborhood in Tokyo, the reservation that requires a connection.

Destination intelligence compounds across years of travel and research. When direct experience is current, it leads. When it needs updating, the research is done before the recommendation is made.

04

Identify Where Restraint Wins

A $600 helicopter flight over a volcanic crater might be the thirty most memorable minutes of a trip. A $400 "luxury" sunset dinner at the tourist viewpoint almost certainly will not be.

Distinguishing between performative luxury and genuine luxury is the core discipline of sophisticated travel planning — and the one most commission-driven advisors have no incentive to apply.

"The world's finest travel experiences are not reserved for those with the largest budgets. They belong to those who understand and exercise their advantage."
The Curated Advantage

Flight Intelligence

Premium Cabins.
Strategically Acquired.

First and business class travel does not require an unlimited budget. It requires a consistent process — applied before every booking, regardless of route.

The Core Principle
Full-price airfare has been paid when the analysis warranted it. Premium cabin travel through points and miles is the default approach — not because it is always free, but because the discipline of exploring every alternative first is non-negotiable.

01

Flexibility Is the Most Valuable Tool

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays are structurally cheaper on most international routes. Moving a departure by two days can save hundreds. Shifting a connecting city can unlock a different fare class entirely. The traveler who treats dates, airports, and routing as negotiable has access to a fundamentally different inventory.

02

Search Regional Airports Before Hub Airport

Fort Lauderdale versus Miami. Stansted versus Heathrow. The savings in airfare regularly outweigh the additional ground time. Always compare the nearest two to three departure options before committing to a hub.

03

Set Fare Alerts Three to Six Months Out

International fares follow predictable windows. Alerts set well in advance catch both standard price drops and mistake fares — the latter being how premium cabin seats occasionally appear at economy-adjacent prices. These windows are brief. Alerts make them catchable.

Google Flights

Fastest for major carriers. Calendar view shows the full price landscape across a month at a glance. Best starting point for most searches.

Going

Formerly Scott's Cheap Flights. Specializes in mistake fares and premium cabin deals. The most valuable tool for first and business class alerts specifically.

Kiwi

Surfaces unconventional routings and combinations that major platforms miss. Essential for complex multi-stop international itineraries.

Skyscanner

"Everywhere" search is unmatched for destination-flexible travelers. "Whole Month" view surfaces the cheapest day without clicking each date individually.

Hopper

Price prediction and optimal booking window guidance. Color-coded calendar shows cheapest departure days at a glance. Strongest for timing decisions.

Kayak

Broad cross-source comparison in a single view. Useful for rapid price benchmarking before committing to a specific platform to book.

Flexibility is not a compromise. It is the primary savings mechanism in intelligent air travel.

Hotel Strategy — Marriott

The Bonvoy Program.
Navigated Honestly.

This is not a Marriott partnership. It is the product of years of personal experience with the Bonvoy program across dozens of countries — and a family connection to the brand that provides insight most members never access.

Results vary by status tier, property, and season. What follows is how this program has been navigated successfully — not a guarantee of identical outcomes, and not a suggestion that Marriott is always the right answer.

The Status Threshold

Platinum Elite is where the meaningful benefits begin — suite upgrade eligibility, lounge access, enhanced welcome gifts. Everything below that tier is infrastructure. Everything above it is leverage.

ANNUAL PRIORITY

Register for Every Promotion Before Staying

Marriott's Q1 global promotion runs almost every year — typically February through May — offering bonus points and elite night credits on paid stays. The 2026 edition delivered 2,500 bonus points per stay plus one bonus Elite Night Credit per brand during the 75-day window. Registration is required in advance of the qualifying stay. Check bonvoy.marriott.com each January before any paid stay. inventory.

STATUS ACCELERATION

Build Nights at Lower-Tier Properties

Courtyard and AC Hotels are cost-efficient vehicles for accumulating elite nights during promotional windows. Paid stays at accessible rate points — especially during Q1 promotions — accelerate the path to Platinum without requiring luxury-property spend.

CARD STRATEGY

Co-Branded Cards Compress the Timeline

Marriott co-branded cards through Chase and Amex contribute up to 40 bonus Elite Night Credits annually — reducing the physical stays required. The Bonvoy Brilliant Amex provides automatic Platinum Elite status. The right card position can halve the time to meaningful status.

REDEMPTION DISCIPLINE

Calculate Value Before Every Award Night

Marriott uses dynamic pricing. Before every redemption, calculate: points cost ÷ equivalent cash rate = value per point. Below 0.7 cents per point, pay cash and preserve the points. Category 8 properties — the St. Regis Maldives, for instance — regularly deliver 1.5 to 2 cents per point. That spread matters significantly at scale.

Beyond Marriott

When the Program
Should Change

Marriott's global footprint is exceptional. It is not always the highest-value play. Program selection should follow the destination and the objective — not brand loyalty for its own sake.

World of Hyatt

Highest Value Per Point

Consistently the strongest hotel loyalty program by redemption value — Hyatt points are worth approximately 1.8 cents each, more than any major competitor. A largely fixed award chart protects against demand-based price inflation. Smaller footprint than Marriott or Hilton, but growing rapidly in the luxury tier. Best paired with Chase Ultimate Rewards at a 1:1 transfer ratio. The correct primary program for travelers prioritizing high-value luxury redemptions over coverage breadth.

IHG One Rewards

Best for Extended Stays

IHG's fourth-night-free benefit on award stays is unique in the industry and genuinely valuable for multi-night itineraries. The Premier card is among the strongest hotel cards by value. Portfolio spans Holiday Inn to InterContinental and Kimpton — solid range, though elite recognition is inconsistent across brands. Most effective as a targeted program rather than a primary one.

Hilton Honors

Most Accessible Elite Benefits

The lowest barrier to meaningful perks in any major hotel program. Gold status — which includes complimentary breakfast at most properties — is achievable through a co-branded card without a single qualifying stay. The Aspire card grants automatic Diamond. Points accumulate quickly and Hilton's fifth-night-free on award stays adds consistent value. The strongest secondary program to run alongside a primary.

Booking.com Genius

Best Non-Chain Alternative

For destinations where none of the major loyalty programs have a compelling property — or for travelers who prefer not to commit to a single chain — Booking.com Genius is the most practical alternative. Status is earned through completed bookings, not nights. It covers the independent properties, boutique hotels, and off-chain destinations where the best value frequently lives.

"Program loyalty is not a virtue. It is a strategy — and like every strategy, it should be re-evaluated when the conditions change."
